The widower teacher and baseball and basketball coach Ray Keene lost his wife that died of cancer two years ago. When his teenage son Chris Keene is caught by the police smoking pot, Ray invites him to hike and camp in the woods to increase their bonds. Meanwhile, the mercenary assassin Frank Carden is arrested by FBI after a car accident in the middle of a contract to kill an important target. While Frank is traveling on the road escorted by three FBI agents, his men try to rescue him, but his car falls into a river and is carried by the drift. Ray helps the wounded agent and the cuffed Frank to leave the river, and feels responsible to deliver Frank to justice. The former policeman and stubborn Ray does not listen to Frank’s proposal to leave him alone and travel through the woods with Chris, trying to find a safe place. But Frank’s men and an undercover agent in the team are chasing the group with different lethal intentions.

The legendary high jacker is actually Dan Cooper. DB Cooper is the name of the man arrested shortly after the real high jacker jumped from the plane but was quickly cleared by the authorities. Unfortunately, the newspapers picked up DB Cooper’s name instead of Dan Cooper and the name stuck.

It all starts out a quiet summer day at a campground in Upstate New York. Families have gathered in the sullen isolation to enjoy the lazy summer days. Joe, the local among the group, is determined to make a prank of the outing and take the vulnerable city kids to the infamous Cappy’s cabin. Cappy, a campfire tale of a backwoods hunter is more than legend. The children come upon a clearing in the woods. It is the cabin. Joe peers in through a dirty window, nothing. He looks further into the deepness of the dark room. A dead girl lies outstretched on the floor as Clem, one of Cappy’s sons cries over her body. The chase begins. If the children want to survive this summer in the woods, they will need to come up with a plan.
